SVALBARD – THE WINTER DESERT

5 Days /
4 Nights

THE REAL WINTER EXPEDITION

Have you ever imagined reaching the northernmost human settlement in the world?
We’ll take you out of your comfort zone and beyond your limits to give you the experience of a lifetime: four intense days in Longyearbyen exploring the Arctic desert.

BEYOND YOUR LIMITS!
Svalbard is a unique and harsh place—challenging in the endless light of summer and even more severe in winter. Yet it’s a land that will steal your heart.
Join us for a truly intense and unforgettable experience in Longyearbyen.

Beyond the 76th parallel north, inside the Arctic Circle, lies a magical land inhabited by extraordinary wildlife, where the light shifts through pastel shades from turquoise to pink, and the absence of night creates dreamlike scenery.

During our Arctic expedition, you’ll enjoy two snowmobile excursions and a cruise to the most famous ghost town in the Arctic: Pyramiden. And with some luck, we may even spot the King of the Arctic—the polar bear.

Our snowmobile tour will also bring you close to Arctic wildlife and historic settlements such as Barentsburg.
An exclusive guide is provided for this special departure.

Why Explore Svalbard by Snowmobile?
Because it’s the only way to reach the true wilderness. Snowmobiles take you deep into Svalbard’s untouched interior — far beyond any road, where the only traces of life might be fox tracks or the distant silhouette of a polar bear. It’s fast, thrilling, and unexpectedly meditative: just you, your machine, the cold air, and endless Arctic horizons.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON TOUR

With FRAMTours, you’ll be guided by experienced Arctic experts who combine safety, navigation skills, and storytelling. Every tour begins with a full briefing and gear check, and your guide will lead you across varied terrain with satellite communication and survival equipment always at hand.

You’ll journey through frozen valleys, sparkling glaciers, icy plateaus, and deep into Svalbard’s National Parks, stopping along the way at breathtaking viewpoints and historic sites like abandoned Soviet mining towns or traditional trapper cabins. Keep your eyes open, as there are opportunities to see Arctic foxes, reindeer, ptarmigan, and sometimes even polar bears, always from a safe distance and with wildlife ethics in mind.

Whether crossing frozen fjords or sharing a warm drink in a remote hut, this tour offers a true Arctic adventure — far from the noise and completely immersed in the wild beauty of the North.

Svalbard - The winter desert

No special physical condition is required, apart from being in good general shape. Participants must be able to operate a snowmobile for several hours over two consecutive days. Even with scheduled breaks, this is a demanding activity for those who are out of shape or have specific physical limitations.

Since we are in an extreme environment, it won’t be possible to take breaks in indoor, heated spaces. Hot meals will be enjoyed outdoors, in variable weather conditions.

Between March and April, the days in Svalbard get longer very quickly. In March, the sun is visible for about 10–13 hours a day, while in April it can reach 16–20 hours of daylight. This is an ideal time to enjoy long days outdoors and admire the Arctic landscape in full natural light.

You need to be prepared for very cold temperatures, even down to -25°C. Dressing in layers is essential, and wool clothing is preferable to technical gear. Specific equipment will always be provided during the snowmobile tours.
