WHALE SAFARI ON A TRADITIONAL BOAT

12 hours

Come with us in search of these magnificent cetaceans!

From late October to January, the fjords around Tromsø become the stage for one of nature’s most spectacular events: the arrival of herring, followed by pods of orcas and humpback whales. These intelligent and powerful animals navigate the narrow fjords to feed, communicate, and interact and you’ll have a front-row seat.

Our journey begins in Tromsø, from where we drive toward the Skjervøy area, Kåfjord, and the Lyngen Alps. After a few hours of driving we board a charming Norwegian wooden boat and sail off in search of majestic whales.

With FRAMTours, this isn’t just a tour; it’s an authentic expedition into the soul of Northern Norway. This sailing experience is crafted for those who seek the quiet power of nature, the thrill of real exploration, and the rare joy of witnessing something few people on Earth ever see.

This tour is made in cooperation with Nunataak Sail Company. Please note that the duration of this tour depends on the whales location and can last between 1,5 and 3,5 hrs. For safety reasons, participants must be able to speak English.

it’s important to dress in layers, wearing warm, waterproof, and windproof clothing, along with gloves and a hat. Dressing in layers helps you stay comfortable while facing wind, cold, and sea spray, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience.

The activity has an approximate duration of around 4 hours, but this may vary depending on the presence of whales and the areas they are in. The excursion is designed to provide the best possible opportunity for sightings, so the actual duration will depend on sea conditions and the movements of the animals.

Whale sightings cannot be guaranteed, as these are wild animals. However, Skjervøy is one of the best places in the world to observe cetaceans, and we always do our best to provide this experience while strictly following safety rules and wildlife protection guidelines.

The most common animals you may see are orcas and humpback whales. Less frequently, you might also spot fin whales and minke whales.

The activity is suitable for most people in good health. However, anyone with mobility issues, very young children, pregnant women, or specific medical conditions should contact us before booking. The excursion involves several hours on a boat, exposure to cold, and possible movement due to the sea, so it’s important to consider your physical condition.
